National Capital Hub and Spoke 2017

This Hub & Spoke coincided with Canada’s 150 Year celebration, so we decided it would be a good year to drive across our beautiful country and attend the cycling event in Ottawa.

The group in Ottawa opened up their homes for the cyclists from the west coast of Canada. They organized the Hub & Spoke, their homes for guest, provided transportation to all the venues, and breakfast for a weeks stay. Wow!

Our host, Fair Rapsey, joined the CCCTS with great encouragement from her friend, Nancy. Apparently they needed accommodations for the billets from out of town, and Nancy thought this would be a very good time for Fair to partake in the club. We were very grateful for this billet as the outcome was strangers becoming friends. Thank you Fair & Nancy!

The daily rides were well organized and considered the various levels of cycling abilities. The leaders were informative, encouraging and patient with anything that came their way. Although the weather was challenging, none of the rides were cancelled. We got soaked to the core, waited under bridges for the monsoon rain to let up, and yet we were able to glean good rides, regardless of the inclement weather.

Of special interest was the arranged guided tour of the Parliament building and the visit to the MosaiCanada150 Gatineau 2017 which featured floral displays representing the Provinces and Territories.

Well done Ottawa organizers & club members !

With gratitude & appreciation for your sharing your homes, and beautiful city with us.
