- Tour Rating: Intermediate (with hills). Sorry, the Okanagan is NOT flat!
- Tour Fee: Fee $50 (non refundable). This fee covers maps, handouts, first eve snacks and one dinner. Fees do not cover accommodation or meals (except for the first night dinner).
Location: This H and S will be held in Vernon, in the lovely Okanagan. Participants will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation and meals, with the exception of the first night’s dinner. There will be a variety of guided rides offered daily (choice of at least 3 per day), with options for those who want to “go for it and add kms.” and for others who wish to “stop and smell the roses”. The Okanagan offers a great variety of scenic rides, with possible stops at lakeside pubs, great coffee shops/ bakeries, parks and beaches. Be sure to bring your swimsuit! There will also be area highlights to visit such as Armstrong Cheese, Rogers Mill (a great place to load up on cycle snacks), BX Express Cidery (you can load up there too, but be careful!), and Sparkling Hills to name a few. Any skiers in the group may also want to check out Silver Star/Sovereign while here, either by car or by cycle (a really good huff and puff for the super fit!) All rides will be on paved roads, and most will leave from the campground designated below.
Accommodation: This will be the responsibility of each participant. We would suggest:
Campers: Sandy Beach Campground, which is across from Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake. We have arranged to have a block of 10 campsites set aside for reservation by CCCTS members. Sites are $35 plus tax per night, but they will allow 2-3 tents per site, with a $3 per person charge for more than 2 persons per site. All sites have water and hydro There are washroom and shower facilities. These sites will be kept on hold for us until May 1st, and carry a 2 week cancellation policy. If you wish to book a site, please email thecampgroundatnewportbeach@shaw.ca as early as possible, and state that you are a CCCTS member and wish to camp at SANDY BEACH (not Newport Beach as the email address might imply….they own both, but Newport is 1/2 hour out of Vernon). Hotel: Super 8 This is a clean, updated hotel in a good location and has been used on prior CCCTS event with satisfaction. With the 15% discount that they offer us, rooms (2 queen beds per room) will be $93.50 plus tax and include breakfast. A block of 12 rooms has been set aside for CCCTS members to reserve prior to mid May. 4204 32nd Street 1 866 5424434 . Again, be sure to say that you are with CCCTS.
Participants are welcome to make other accommodation arrangements if they choose…there are numerous other hotels nearby as well as other campgrounds ..These are, however, the most convenient. N.B. Most rides will leave from Kin Beach (across from the campground) each morning.
Itinerary: Sun., June 19th Registration and map pick up 1:00 p.m. – 3:00p.m. Location to be announced in subsequent news brief. This will be followed at 3:00 p.m. by a brief meeting , description of rides and sign up for same. At 4:00 p.m., a “Discovery Ride” will be offered for those who wish to go for a wee spin. We’ll show you how to get about Vernon, find our local bike shops, and get back and forth between the beach/campground/hotel and restaurant area. Happy hour will follow, as well as a catered dinner. Mon. – Thurs. there will be 3 rides offered daily, ranging from approx. 45 – 90 km. The length and difficulty of each ride will vary according to ability and desire of cyclists. Thurs. eve. We will be suggesting a wrap up dinner at one of the local restaurants, hopefully by the water. This will be optional/sign up, not covered by fees. Friday, June 24th. Pack up day. For those who want one last adventure, we will be offering a couple of shorter rides to allow travelers time to hit the road for their homeward drive.
