The Sunshine Coast …the name alone makes you want to visit! Cycling through the Sunshine Coast communities of Lund, Powell River, Sechelt and Gibsons (yes, you can relive The Beachcombers), along with the Discovery Islands of Quadra and Cortes, the port city of Nanaimo, the very laid back vibe of Hornby Island and the amazing Comox Valley and you will quickly discover why people come from all over the world to experience and enjoy BC’s forests, trails and beaches.
The Sunshine Coast Tour is a camping tour and fees are based on 2 tents per campground site. All provided meals and social activities (unless noted) will be at the group campgrounds. This tour has been designed to support those who wish to participate in a traditional tent-style tour with camping reservations at a combination of BC Provincial Parks and private camping resorts. A support vehicle with shared participant driving will move camping gear along the route and provide baggage support for tour participants. The support vehicle has a baggage allowance of two medium sized duffle bags (max. 90L bag) per person in addition to group camping equipment.
Participants should expect a variety of conditions along the tour route including hilly island terrain and days that are mostly flat and fast. While the tour will be on paved road, you can expect chip seal, uneven pavement and many kilometers – especially on the Gulf and Discovery Islands – where you will share the road with vehicle and ruminant (deer) traffic. As this is a coastal ride, participants can anticipate changing weather, from sunny and warm days to windy and wet ones. You should be prepared for both eventualities.
