City Country Loop (2019-09-13)

City Country Loop

8 optimists rode today on an adjusted course, rain-free on Friday the 13th. The forecast was for morning showers and rain in the afternoon, so we kept close to town (Dove Creek, Farnham, Tsolum, Little River, Airport), 50ish kms, with just a few drops of rain early in the ride. The ride coordinator did a brilliant job to keep us all dry and happy.  Thanks, Glenn!

Thanks to Rhonda for coordinating and for upping the standard for all other Coordinators by supplying homemade brownies and fresh picked plums at the completion of the ride!

Miracle Beach (2019-08-01)

Miracle Beach

Well, after a miserable day on Thursday with heavy rain and the possibility of rain still in the forecast on Friday morning, we decided to give it a go and 11 riders met at the Filberg. Most, though not all, had finished their breakfast by then!   By the time we arrived, the skies had cleared and the sun was shining.  We took Dove Creek to the  inland Highway then up to Hamm Rd and down, through the rabbit hole, to the Miniature Golf near Black Creek where we enjoyed some hearty ice cream cones.  Return trip was via 19A, Howard, Headquarters for most.  A nice 60+ km ride.

Parksville (2019-07-26)

Parksville -Rathtrevor Beach

A gorgeous day for 26 cyclists who met at Wembley Mall near French Creek and had a winding ride through many lovely streets in Parksville and Nanoose including Northwest Bay.  We made a stop at Serious Coffee in Parksville and made our way to lovely Rathtrevor Beach for lunch, before returning to the Wembley Mall.  A very satisfying 60 km ride (of course, Rhonda cycled from Courtenay so did 135 km!)   A big thank you to Jane & James for coordinating.

The Choose a Ride met at the Filberg and the 15 riders rode up Dove Creek Rd to the Highway then onto Cumberland and the Moose, returning via Minto/Fraser.

All told, 41 riders on this great day!

Quadra Island (2019-07-19)

Quadra Island

A beautiful day for 11 riders to explore Quadra Island with a stop at Cape Mudge and the Heriot Bay Inn for lunch.  A total of 40 km on the Island plus many did some km before arriving at the ferry in Campbell River.  Thanks to Peter for coordinating.

City Country Loop (2019-07-05)

Although rain was threatening all day, we took a chance and 10 riders altered the scheduled route to Black Creek to stay closer to home.  We  did the 50 km route up Headquarters, Tsolum River, Coleman, Waveland & Little River to the Airport for coffee.  We got back home and still no rain!   Next week we travel to Powell River and Saltery Bay.  Thanks to Marg for coordinating.

Buckley Bay (2019-06-28)

Buckley Bay

A group of 14 riders had a cloudy day to travel south along Hwy 19A for a nice ride to Buckley Bay.   There the socialization included coffee as well as ice cream, for some,  on the inaugural day of the new Ice Cream store beside our regular coffee stop.  Next week we travel north again to Saratoga Beach and the Black Creek General store.
