August 30 FBI and Buckley Bay

A perfect day for cycling…no wind, cloudy and a reasonable temperature brought a group of 26 members out for the ride.  Most of the group made their way to Buckley Bay for coffee while a few went on to the FBI.

Photos to come.

Friday August 16 Denman/Hornby

12 members chose a beautiful day for the 50 km ride around Denman & Hornby.  This included a stop at a very large Campbell’s Tomato Soup can on Hornby.  Lunch at Tribune Bay.  Thanks to Rob for coordinating.

Friday August 9 Gold River & Choose a Ride

A group of 10 riders completed the challenging 83 km ride to Gold River this year.  Fortunately the weather turned out to be perfect for cycling …..overcast and a moderate temperature.

Lunch at the Clayworks Gallery  before the 10 km climb out of town.

Thanks to Rhonda for coordinating and for upping the standard for all other Coordinators by supplying homemade brownies and fresh picked plums at the completion of the ride!

The Choose a Ride group also had 10 participants and travelled to Cumberland via Dove Creek Rd and the Inland Highway, back via Minto , Fraser.

Friday August 1…Choose a Ride to Miniature Golf

Well, after a miserable day on Thursday with heavy rain and the possibility of rain still in the forecast on Friday morning, we decided to give it a go and 11 riders met at the Filberg. Most, though not all, had finished their breakfast by then!   By the time we arrived, the skies had cleared and the sun was shining.  We took Dove Creek to the  inland Highway then up to Hamm Rd and down, through the rabbit hole, to the Miniature Golf near Black Creek where we enjoyed some hearty ice cream cones.  Return trip was via 19A, Howard, Headquarters for most.  A nice 60+ km ride.

Friday July 26 Rathrevor Beach and Choose a Ride

A gorgeous day for 26 cyclists who met at Wembley Mall near French Creek and had a winding ride through many lovely streets in Parksville and Nanoose including Northwest Bay.  We made a stop at Serious Coffee in Parksville and made our way to lovely Rathrevor Beach for lunch, before returning to the Wembley Mall.  A very satisfying 60 km ride (of course, Rhonda cycled from Courtenay so did 135 km!)   A big thank you to Jane & James for coordinating.

The Choose a Ride met at the Filberg and the 15 riders rode up Dove Creek Rd to the Highway then onto Cumberland and the Moose, returning via Minto/Fraser.

All told, 41 riders on this great day!

Friday July 19 Quadra Island & Choose a Ride

A beautiful day for 11 riders to explore Quadra Island with a stop at Cape Mudge and the Heriot Bay Inn for lunch.  A total of 40 km on the Island plus many did some km before arriving at the ferry in Campbell River.  Thanks to Peter for coordinating.

Another 9 riders met at the Filberg and had a pleasant ride down to Buckley Bay for a total of over 50 km.

Friday July 12 Powell River to Saltery Bay + Choose a Ride

Two rides today:

A group of 13 travelled via ferry to Powell River and then cycled down to Saltery Bay and back for a total of 60 km.  A super day. Thanks to John & Evelyn for coordinating.

Back home, a group of 6 met at the Filberg and travelled up 5th & Lake Trail, Comox Logging Road, Marsden to Cumberland for coffee at the Moose.  The return trip included Highway 19 to Dove Creek Rd then  Headquarters and back home.  Total distance about 58 km.

Friday July 5 Country Loop

Although rain was threatening all day, we took a chance and 10 riders altered the scheduled route to Black Creek to stay closer to home.  We  did the 50 km route up Headquarters, Tsolum River, Coleman, Waveland & Little River to the Airport for coffee.  We got back home and still no rain!   Next week we travel to Powell River and Saltery Bay.  Thanks to Marg for coordinating.

Friday June 28 Buckley Bay

A group of 14 riders had a cloudy day to travel south along Hwy 19A for a nice ride to Buckley Bay.   There the socialization included coffee as well as ice cream, for some,  on the inaugural day of the new Ice Cream store beside our regular coffee stop.  Next week we travel north again to Saratoga Beach and the Black Creek General store.

June 23 Bella Bicicletta

Congrats to the 11 CCCTS members who completed today’s 100 km Bella Bicicletta from Royston to Qualicum Bay and back.

Friday June 21 Courtenay Country Market

A nice day for 27 riders to make their way along Comox Ave, Lazo, Waveland, Coleman, Hardy, Grieve and 19A for coffee at the Courtenay Country Market.  A nice 50 km ride. Thanks to Dr. Bob for coordinating.

Friday June 14 Salmon Point

Another beautiful day for a ride and 20 riders showed up to check out the damage from the Salmon Point fire earlier this year  (quite extensive…see the photos!).   We made our way out to Discovery Foods at Oyster River where we picked up some snacks for eating at the Salmon Point resort where we enjoyed a beautiful view of the water and boats passing by.  On the way back we came along the coast through Saratoga Beach, Miracle Beach and Seaview farm, attacked the Williams Beach Rd hill and made our way through the Nurmi Rd “rabbit hole” to Howard Rd and finally back down Headquarters for a ride of over 60 km.  A big thanks to Sheila for coordinating this adventure and to Brenda for some of the photos.

May 31 Gabriola Island

A group of 14 riders, including two who live in Nanaimo, Jane & Diana, met at the Gabriola ferry terminal in Nanaimo for the 15 minute ferry ride to beautiful Gabriola Island.  We started the trip off with a nice hill up from the ferry which eventually lead to Dr. Bob’s chain breaking.  A quick repair was made and we rode down South Road to Brickyard Beach then onward to Silva Bay before returning via North Road and eventually Taylor Rd and Berry Point Rd to the Surf Lodge for lunch.  We then made our way back to the Ferry Terminal and surprised ourselves by catching the 3:05 ferry which was running a bit late.  A lovely warm sunny day for the ~40 km ride around the island.  Thanks to Marilynn for coordinating.

Another group of 9 riders met for a Choose a Route from the Filberg Centre.
