Ride Description:

This often talked about Hub & Spoke will be headquartered on the picturesque University of British Columbia campus.  Each day will offer a variety of rides (approximately 5 each day) from less than 50 km to up to 100 km.  We will tour along the many bicycle routes of the Lower Mainland and enjoy the natural beauty of the area as well as many areas of interest both historical and contemporary.  In your “non-ride” time slot the UBC campus has activities and programs that may be of interest.

This Hub & Spoke is not intended to be a “heads down and ride” event but rather an opportunity where you can have some very challenging or more relaxed rides that will enhance your visit to the City of Vancouver and the surroundings.  For those residing in the area, why not be a tourist in your own city? Stop and see sites that you probably cycle past and don’t even know exist!!

When was the last time you visited or heard about the Community Gardens, the gardens in Stanley Park or the rich beauty of Queen Elizabeth Park?  How about the street art around the city?

The many bike routes in the area will give you an “eye full” of the new developments permeating the landscape and hear about the major plans for additional changes.

Bike routes will include,

  • Riding around numerous waterfront routes in Vancouver including Stanley Park and enjoying refreshments at the famous Granville Island Market.
  • Experiencing views from the Lions Gate Bridge on the way to the North Shore, Lonsdale Quay and return via the Sea Bus and downtown Vancouver.
  • Viewing the large selection of public art and tour the oldest sector of Vancouver, Strathcona and Chinatown.
  • Visiting  Richmond’s heritage community of Steveston and the bike route along the dikes.
  • Riding the bike routes to the neighboring area of Burnaby and deciding if you want to challenge the hill to Simon Fraser University or just coast south and enjoy Burnaby and Deer Lakes.

Registration and Participant Selection:

Registration will be on the CCCTS website starting Monday April 7.  A computerized lottery system and waitlist will be utilized if the ride is over-subscribed.  A $50 CDN payment is required at the time of registration. The lottery signup will run for 8 days, after which the Ride Leader will review the results.

If you are registering with a friend/partner you can register separately as “singles” if you’re ok with just one of you getting in.  However, if you only want to go if you BOTH get in, you MUST register as a COUPLE.  When you register as a couple, your lottery number will become the average of your two lottery numbers, and you will either both get in or neither of you will get in.  This decision must be made before you register and cannot be undone or done later in the process.  When registering as a couple, you must check two boxes in the “couple” column and include both names.

Here is a great video explaining the registration process:  How To Register for a CCCTS Ride Event

The selection process will consider the following criteria in evaluating candidates:

  • fitness and riding ability and experience required for the tour,
  • a history of demonstrating safe riding practices,
  • acceptable social behavior.

The Hub and Spoke Leader may interview riders or others who know them to verify their suitability for the tour. The Leader will have the discretion to make the final decision on whether someone is accepted for a tour and may reject applicants after discussion with the Hub & Spoke Director. The leader may interview riders or others who know them to verify their suitability for the Hub and Spoke.  Member selection is done primarily by lottery results but the leader will have the final decision and the right to reject applicants for the Hub and Spoke after discussion with the Hub and Spoke Director.  The leader also has the option to prioritize 30% of the tour applicants

The leader will notify registrants of their selection status. If the ride is not filled to capacity, registration will continue until the closing dates shown. Registration Fee payments are considered non-refundable in the event of cancellation.
