Location: This year the Ottawa chapter’s H&S is located in the ‘Centre du Québec’ tourist region. The Hub will be the small city of Victoriaville (pop. 45,000) which is considered to be the heart of the Bois – Francs region of the province. The city was founded in 1861 and named after Queen Victoria. Former Canadian Prime Minister Sir Wilfred Laurier’s summer home was located here and is now a museum. In the economic sphere, Victoriaville is distinguished in the making of milled wood, furniture, machinery and specialized transport.

Victoriaville is located on the Nicolet River where the lowlands along the Saint Lawrence River meet the foothills of the Appalachian mountain range. The region offers the opportunity for cycling rides of varying lengths and difficulty.

Description: The H&S is rated as intermediate as the choice of rides is mixed. Rides to the west and north of Victoriaville, to the communities of Princeville, St. Rosaire, Ste. Clotilde, and Kingsley Falls are generally relatively flat, while those to the east and south to Danville, Chesterville, St. Fortunate and St. Ferdinand can require considerable climbing. Short, medium and long rides will be offered on all five week days. On the first day (May 29) and the last day (June 4), which will be mainly travelling days, there may be time for short rides. Daily cycling distances will range between 45 and 100 kms, (your choice). Your organizing committee of Nel Ahmed, Geoff Kennedy, and Ed Weber invites you to come and join the fun as we explore this region of Quebec province.
