The Cross Canada Cycle Tour Society December 2023, Volume 40, Issue #11
From the Hub and Spoke Director’s Desk – December 2023
We’ve had a good year in the Hub and Spoke department, with events completed in Victoria, BC Interior, Napanee and Saint Augustine Florida. Hub and Spokes remain popular as we can accommodate larger groups of people and offer a flexible experience where people have choices about what they want to do each day e.g. short ride, long ride…or maybe even no ride (a day on the beach anyone?).
Our final event of the year took place in November in sunny Florida in the historical city of Saint Augustine, a beautiful city first established in the 1500’s by Spanish settlers. The event was coordinated by Linda Graupner with co-leads Chris Hayes and Marg Hurley. We enjoyed 8 days of warm and mostly sunny weather with a variety of rides – some long and fast, and some more leisurely with stops at all the famous sites of Saint Augustine. Seafood lunches, alligator viewings, a mini-golf tournament and riding on the hard-packed sand were just some of the many highlights.
Quiet bike paths shaded by palms and Spanish moss (which is actually NOT Spanish and NOT moss)
Enjoying a nature walk
A few brave cyclists tested out their tires on the hard-packed sand
Our 2024 calendar is starting to develop and we welcome additional Hub and Spoke opportunities. Let me know if you have an idea!
Lastly, our Board has reviewed the feedback you provided in our Fee survey earlier this year. As a result, we have approved a few changes in our registration fees and leader compensation. These will be shared with our members at the AGM on Dec. 11. Make sure to put this date on your calendar!
