- Registration and Participant Selection: Registration opens December 12th at 1700h, PDT (5:00 p.m.), and is accomplished on-line at http:// tinyurl.com/m9dw6g , for a cost of $2.00 (non-refundable). Participant selection will follow the new “CCCTS Tour Participant Selection Policy and Procedures”: Successful applicants will be CCCTS members selected on the basis of date-of-receipt of registration; their fitness, health and cycling skills in relation to the Tour’s Intermediate rating; and on rooming arrangements (double occupancy couples or same sex roommates unless otherwise agreed to). Within 48 hours of an applicant’s acceptance, the Tour Leader will contact participants by phone and E-mail. Successful applicants will have 72 hours to make their first deposit ($700.00), on-line at ( http:// tinyurl.com/m9dw6g); the final payment ($650.00) will be paid on-line by March 1st. Those canceling the Tour will incur costs made or committed on their behalf unless vacancies are filled. Spots are reserved for two club members whose skills are deemed necessary to ensure Tour success. These two will be identified following consultation with the Tours Director, and their expected roles outlined to Tour participants prior to the Tour’s start. Queries about cycling abilities in relation to health and safety should be directed to the Tour Leader prior to registering. If you e-mail Warner, you may request that he call you from the US. Once the tour is full, applicants may join the wait list at no charge: They will inform the Tour Leader, however, when they no longer wish to be considered for the Tour.
Description: This 16-day, 15-night loop-tour starts and ends in Sacramento, California, with enjoyable rides through California’s beautiful gold country. Sacramento’s maximum and minimum daily temperatures are expected to be (~) 27C (82F) and ~8C (41F) respectively. Little precipitation is expected during the tour, (> 1” per month). It is a truck-supported tour with motel lodging. It includes eight riding/travel days, seven non-move days (NMD), and two travel days.
The Tour follows a clock-wise loop-route from Sacramento (two day stay), Lincoln (one night), Grass Valley/Nevada City (two day stay), Auburn (two day stay), Placerville (two day stay), Jackson (two day stay), Sutter Creek (two day stay) and return to Sacramento. (See the CCCTS website for information on the sights and entertainment available in these cities). Participants will take turns driving the truck, laying out lunches, and arranging “happy-hour” refreshments.
Riding Conditions and Logistics: The tour is rated intermediate (For tour classification information See “CCCTS Tours” section in this News brief). The vehicle is for transporting luggage, food stuffs and drinks, etc., and for the transport of either ill cyclists or those with mal-functioning bicycles; the maximum distance for the short routes or move days will be 105 km (63 mi) with ~600 m (2,000’) of elevation gain. In general, the rides are mainly flat and the hills will be modest. A choice of various rides will be provided on non-move days. The Tour’s minimum total cycling distance will be ~620 km (386 mi). Road surfaces will be pavement. The ride is listed as intermediate due to the low amount of elevation gains.Itinerary: Participants will arrive in Sacramento on April 21st; lodging is at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Capital Plaza, which does not provide free transportation. A shuttle service costs $14 each way.
• April 21st/Sunday arrival/22nd: (Sunday arrival), Lodging at the Holiday Inn – Group meeting at Happy Hour;
• April 23rd: Sacramento to Lincoln 52 mi (83 km)- We ride on the American River bike path to Folsom before heading north to Lincoln.
• April 24th/25th: Lincoln to Grass Valley/Nevada City 46 mi (74 km).
• April 26th/27th: Grass Valley/Nevada City to Auburn – 39 mi (63km).
• April 28th/29th: Auburn to Placerville. 32 mi (52 km).
• April 30th/May 1st: Placerville to Jackson – 43 mi (69km).
• May 2nd/3rd: Jackson to Sonora – 46 mi (74 km).
• May 4th/5th: Sonora to Sutter Creek – 63 mi (102 km).
• May 6th: Sutter Creek to Sacramento – 65 mi (105km) downhill and along the River;
• May 7th: (Tuesday); Breakfast, and Tour’s end.
Tour fees include accommodations, all breakfasts (included with room registration), bag lunches and the leader’s tour remuneration of 5% of tour costs to a maximum of one Tour fee. The fee does not cover pre/post travel costs to/from Sacramento, dinners, any parking fees ($9.00 per day), and other personal costs.
