This is a 7-day H&S based in Penticton, BC. Penticton is located at the south end of the Okanagan Lake. Okanagan Valley is Canada’s premier wine producing district, boasting over 80 wineries, eight craft breweries and two cideries. The city is located 400 kms from Vancouver and about 650 kms west of Calgary. The town is very walkable, with lots of good restaurants, pubs and bike shops which offer repairs and rentals. The weather in late May is pleasant – comfortable, lots of sun, great for cycling.
The first day (May 31) is arrival day. Check into the Bowmont Motel, and get ready for one of our well-known Happy Hours at 6 pm. The following five days (June 1 – June 5) are riding days with most rides originating in Penticton. One riding day requires a short drive to Oliver. These rides are described below. The last day (June 6) is check-out day.
Arrangements have been made for a block of rooms at the Bowmont Motel, 80 Riverside Dr in Penticton. Participants should phone 1-250-490-0231 to arrange their own rooms by Feb. 28, 2026. Please specify that you are with the CCCTS cycling group when you book a room. If booking online use Promo Code CCCTS26. Room cost is $139 to $159 (plus tax) per night. All rooms have a full kitchen. A one- night deposit is required on booking, with payment for the remaining nights due upon check-in. Reservations may be cancelled up to 1 week prior to arrival without penalty.
The motel has an outdoor pool/hot tub, a laundry facility, and an outdoor covered barbeque area just right for our happy hour and pre-ride meetings. The motel is close to the beach and several restaurants: upscale, medium and fast food. Singles are welcome to have their own room, but if you wish to have a roommate, please make your own arrangements.
Bowmont Motel has about 20 rooms on the ground floor. Those who register early will have first choice of ground floor rooms. Those who register later may have to settle for an upstairs room; for these guests lockable bike accommodation will be available at a storage room a few minutes from the motel.
Rides are mainly on rural roads with minimal traffic, other than short stretches on Hwy 97/3A for the longer routes. There are no unpaved sections. The H&S is rated intermediate–advanced as the terrain has some climbs with 474m-647m ascent on the shorter routes to 764m – 1371m for the longer rides.

Routes on the following five riding days are listed below. Participants will sign up during registration for the rides of their choice. (Groups of 10 per ride maximum)
- Penticton – Naramata, (53km/69km): This ride follows the wine route along Naramata Bench to a scenic lookout at Painted Rock and then returns through the village of Naramata. The longer route will have an added circuit of Penticton.
- Penticton – Summerland – Camp Boyle – (55km/76km) The longer route will originate in Penticton and join with the shorter route in Lower Summerland. The ride will follow the lake to Summerland and then climb through town and beyond to the Camp Boyle scout camp which is a favorite destination of local cyclists. Cyclists will then return through the vineyards and wineries along Bottleneck Drive.
- Penticton – Green Mountain Loop, (48km/82km): Following Green Mountain road from Penticton towards the Apex Mountain ski resort, the shorter route will be an out and back to the Apex exit. The longer ride will include a loop that will bring the riders back to Penticton through Kaleden.
- Penticton – Okanagan Falls – (57km/81km) Riders will follow Skaha lake on Eastside road to Okanagan Falls. The shorter route will tour the vineyards along Oliver Ranch Road before returning to OK Falls along Hwy 97 and following Eastside Rd to Penticton (with an optional stop at Tickleberrys ice cream, of course). The longer route will climb to the White Lake Observatory and then descend back to OK Falls before returning via Eastside Road.
- Oliver – Black Sage, (46km/73km): This ride will originate in Oliver, requiring a short ½ hr carpool to the start point at the Oliver InfoCenter. The two routes will follow the Black Sage Bench and then loop back through the Golden Mile vineyards and climb to White Lake road. The shorter route will make a loop back to Oliver while the long ride will extend their loop to OK Falls and then return.
The last day (June 6) is check-out day.
Please register for this event using the CCCTS website for online registration, on the dates shown above. All participants must be current CCCTS members.
If you are registering with a friend/partner you can register separately as “singles” if you’re ok with just one of you getting in. However, if you only want to go if you BOTH get in, you MUST register as a COUPLE. When you register as a couple, your lottery number will become the average of your two lottery numbers, and you will either both get in or neither of you will get in. This decision must be made before you register and cannot be undone or done later in the process. When registering as a couple, you must check two boxes in the “couple” column and include both names.
The selection process will consider the following criteria in evaluating candidates:
- fitness and riding ability and experience required for the tour,
- a history of demonstrating safe riding practices,
- acceptable social behavior.
The Hub and Spoke Leader may interview riders or others who know them to verify their suitability for the Hub & Spoke. The Leader will have the discretion to make the final decision on whether someone is accepted for a tour and may reject applicants after discussion with the Hub & Spoke Director. Member selection is done primarily by lottery results but the leader will have the final decision. The number of priority members is limited to 30% of the number of participants to a maximum of 6 prioritized participants.
The leader will notify registrants of their selection status. If the ride is not filled to capacity, registration will continue until the closing date shown. Registration Fees are considered non refundable in the event of a cancellation. In the event of registrations exceeding the maximum, a computer-generated lottery system will be used to select the riders and those on the wait-list. The lottery close date is shown above. Participants will be notified by email of acceptance or wait-list status. If cancellations occur, individuals from the waiting list will be invited to join based on their position on the waiting list.
COMMUNICABLE ILLNESS PLAN
The CCCTS Communicable Illness Policy takes into consideration regulations and recommendations from Public Health Authority of Canada, BC Centre of Disease Control, and Public Health Ontario. In the case of illness while on tour, it is expected that all participants will follow the procedures outlined in this policy. Please refer to the Communicable Illnesses Policy and Procedures document on the club website for more details.
CCCTS strongly encourages all participants to be up to date on their vaccinations for COVID and all other communicable diseases. Everyone should bring three COVID test kits with them on the tour and take responsibility for self-testing if they feel ill.
