Date of ride: Thursday, Sept 22, 10:00 am

Ride Leader: Peter Haggerty, fw599@ncf.ca or pdmhaggerty@gmail.com

Start location: Clyde Memorial Ball Field, Lanark (on Clarence St. behind the LCBO and Fire Hall)

General Information: This route counts as one of the more challenging bicycle loops in eastern Ontario, certainly within an hour drive of Ottawa. Put on your climbing legs, as there are hills and more hills (doing it clockwise should get the biggest ones out of the way in the first half). Much of the area is VERY sparsely inhabited, roads SHOULD be all paved (except for a tiny bit on a small side loop into Sheridans Rapids), and very lightly traveled. There are uphill grinds and Woo-Hoo! downhill runs. Riders need to be highly self sufficient, with enough food and water for the day: there are few to no amenities for most of the loop. Do not count on cell phone reception. Historically, the “Lavant Colonization Road” did not really get settled, for very good reasons. But it is a very satisfying trip, especially if you like to get off the beaten track.
