As the newest member of the CCCTS family, we are pleased to welcome all Edmonton area CCCTS members to join us in maintaining an active lifestyle while encouraging rewarding connections with its members. Its mission is to provide opportunities for experienced cyclists, to safely enjoy our local roads, multi-use paths, and trails, while socializing, within a healthy and active environment.
The local chapter will be known as YCAT (YEG Cycle And Touring). We are currently planning an Open House and our first AGM, scheduled for early in the New Year. Edmonton Chapter members will receive the final details via email. Please be sure to select Edmonton as your home chapter on your member profile to stay informed!
A bit more info
The objective of CCCTS and YCAT is to offer a variety of recreational cycling experiences to all its members on a non-profit basis. It is a volunteer-based cycling club so it is dependent on all of us to actively contribute.
What will YCAT offer?
- YCAT plans to offer its members weekly local rides as well as the Tours and Hub & Spokes offered to all Cross Canada Cycle Tour Society (CCCTS).
- YCAT will also offer out of town rides and/or multi-day events for its members as well as for the whole CCCTS membership.
- All rides will promote safe group cycling as well as developing independent cycling skills such self-navigation and basic bike maintenance skills.
Ride Information for Participants
Ride Registration? For now, there is no registration/cancellation required to participate in YCAT day ride. Some of the rides may have sweeps; others not. It is the responsibility of each cyclist to read the ride description carefully, then to choose what best suits individual ride ability and skill. Riders are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time, and be ready to ride. Attendance is simply communicating to the ride leader you are ready to ride.
The rides will be posted on the CCCTS Edmonton Chapter Calendar and RWGPS route will be provided. It is expected that ALL participants come prepared with the route. For more information on how to get access to the YCAT routes. All our rides will be in the CCCTS library using #Edmonton.
Types of rides
All rides in the calendar will include a detailed description to help riders determine if the ride is suitable for them. We are looking at various types of day rides:
- Touring Rides can be described as shorter (40-60km) and slower pace (18-20kph). These will be group No Drop rides. If you are looking for a challenge on those rides, bring your touring bike with your full panniers lol! As most of us enjoy a coffee when we were tour abroad, we may just do that.
- Pace Yourself! These are an offering of distances and paces where participants can choose their own poison for the day. The pace varies depending on the leader, but will usually be 20kph or more as the season advances. The offerings will depend on our volunteers. All participants must have RWGPS route with them.
- Themed Rides are rides that may have a special purpose like a stop at a coffee or ice cream shop. Or, an out of town ride like the C&E trail, Innisfail Coffee Cottage or a Pigeon Lake BBQ event.
More information in the New Year!
