Cumberland (2018-04-21)

Cumberland

A group of 11 riders participated in a group ride on an unusual day for the Club.  The weather was very nice as the group made its way down Condensory, Piercy and then Dove Creek Road to the Highway where they turned left and rode into Cumberland for treats at the Wandering Moose.  They then made their way down Royston Road and Minto and back along the parkway. Thanks to Bob for Leading and Ed & Barb for sweeping.

Cumberland Mixed Surface (2018-04-15)

Cumberland – Mixed Surface

Ten riders enjoyed the chapter’s inaugural “Mixed Surface Ride” otherwise known as a mountain bike trail ride. We departed the Filberg Centre and rode up to Lake Trail and eventually onwards towards Nymph Falls. We continued on to the dam on Comox Lake and then followed Beavan Road to Cumberland where we enjoyed coffee and treats at the Wandering Moose Café.  After coffee, we cycled to Royston on an off-road trail and then returned to Courtenay on bike paths. Our 45 km ride saw everything from paved road, to gravel and sand, to single track through the woods and even a wet creek crossing. It was a perfect ride for mountain bikes, and the weather cooperated. We even enjoyed a little sunshine. Thanks to Peter Brother for leading the ride and to Steve Allen for guiding us through the Nymph Falls trail system. Thanks to all the riders for staying together as a tight group – we completed the ride at a modest pace of 14 km/h.

City/Country Loop (2018-04-06)

City Country Loop

Fifteen riders believed the weather forecast and headed out on a familiar route- Merville, Seal Bay, Little River- then stopped for coffee and snacks at the airport before dispersing in various directions home. Better than expected riding conditions actually as the sun and blue sky peeked out briefly. Thanks to John for leading and Tom for sweeping.

Buckley Bay (2018-03-30)

Buckley Bay

A nice Good Friday for our 19 riders to travel down to Buckley Bay. The A Group travelled up to the Parkway then down Minto to Royston Road while the others made their way along the old highway.  Treats at Buckley Bay before we took the return trip where some decided it was warm enough to ride in shorts!

FIRST RIDE OF THE SEASON…City Country Loop

What a great day for our first ride!  Sun and 13 degrees. Thirty riders rode to Merville via Huband and Waveland, where most stopped for treats at one of our favourite stops…the Merville General Store.  We returned via Tsolum River Road and Headquarters and some made their way to Mudsharks.  Thanks to Angus for coordinating.  A very enjoyable first ride of the season.

Indoor Spin (2017-11-10)

BONUS RIDE…City Country Loop

Well, we thought we were finished but we could not pass up a gorgeous late October day.  17 riders showed up for the 50 km ride across the new bridge then Headquarters, Tsolum River Road, Merville, Coleman, Waveland, Little River and then home.  A great finish to October!

City/Country Loop (2017-10-20)

City Country Loop

The last scheduled ride of the year took place today.  Weather was not perfect…70% chance of a shower and a little coolish, but 8 riders showed up and enjoyed a ride up Headquarters then down Coleman and Waveland ending eventually for coffee at the Airport.  A little rain was encountered but not enough to dampen any spirits…and thoughts of organizing more rides in the not so distant future was suggested.

Thanks for a great season…31 rides and 526 riders took part.  Hopefully we will see everybody again next March!

Cumberland (2017-10-13)

Cumberland

The 19 riders today enjoyed a gorgeous October day with clear blue sky and a temperature of 13 degrees!  We made our way to Cumberland via Dove Creek Road and Hwy 19 where we enjoyed our coffee at our traditional spot, The Wandering Moose.  One more week in our riding schedule for 2017.  Hopefully we can finish off with another day like today!!

Friday October 6, 2017

Scheduled “Choose a Ride” but the uncertain weather conditions scared most people and only 1 rider showed up!!

Saratoga Beach (2017-09-22)

Saratoga Beach

A great day for the first day of Fall!  19 riders rode about 60 km to Saratoga Beach, Seaview Farm and Tsolum River Road with treats at the Merville General Store.  Thanks for Eamonn and Rhonda for leading and sweeping the A Group and to Roz and Bill for leading and sweeping the #1 group.  A special thanks to Roz and Bob for Coordinating.
