Willow Point
About 15 riders participated in today’s somewhat windy ride to Willow Point, just south of Campbell River. Some left from the Filberg Centre, while others left from Merville. A few cycled to Oyster River before making the return trip. For those who did the whole trip it was about 78 km and the route is shown here. Unfortunately, bike problems got in the way of photography, and, most unfortunately, Glenn, our superb photographer, has obtained a second yellow card due to a poor attendance record (a red card is imminent!)
City Country Loop
For our 11th ride of the season, a group of 20 rivers met for the “City Country Loop”. For the first time, the day was cloudy. We rode through Comox, Lazo Road up to Merville and back into Courtenay where many ended up at Rhodo’s for lunch. Our tour of about 55 km is shown here. We gained about 337 metres in elevation and burned over 2000 calories in about 2 hours and 15 minutes of riding. Unfortunately, your not so intrepid reporter wimped out and, due to the 10 drops of rain that landed on his helmet, sought the comfort of his home. As a result, no final pictures…and the others, again are somewhat uninclusive! Hopefully our fearless photographer, Glenn, is able to join us next week! A big thanks to Roz and Bob for leading both groups.
Quadra Island
A group on 19 riders met at Oyster River and rode into Campbell River to Painter’s Lodge where they took the water taxi across to April Point and enjoyed lunch with a beautiful view of Discovery Passage. The route (shown here) was about 55km, though a few keeners from the A group added another 11 by taking the Inland Highway back to Hamm Road, while others rode from the Merville General Store and added 24 km to the trip. The weather looked a little cloudy in the morning but, by the time we left, the sun had come out and we had another nice day! Thanks to Steve for leading, once again.
Oyster River
An overcast day with a few sprinkles of rain saw 19 riders travel to Oyster River via Miracle Beach a trip of about 55 km. Unfortunately, the Fisherman’s Pub was closed for lunch so some went to Salmon Point and others to the Black Creek General Store. Thanks to Andy for leading another successful ride.
Buckley Bay
24 members participated in a ride to Buckley Bay. Some took the Inland Highway 19 while others took the more scenic coast route along 19A. Route was approximately 50 km. Both groups met at Buckley Bay for refreshments and to share stories. A big thank you to Andy, Marg and Angela for leading and sweeping.
