Ride Description:

This 5 day tour of the Ottawa Valley between Ottawa and Pembroke is offered as a supplement to the National Capital Hub and Spoke immediately preceding it. Consequently, first priority will be given to participants who have registered for the Hub and Spoke.

The Ottawa Valley Tour will leave from the Ottawa suburb of Kanata and travel up the Ottawa River valley to Pembroke and back. There will be stops in the Pontiac Region in the Province of Quebec, the town of Renfrew in Ontario, as well as a day ride around Allumette Island opposite Pembroke. Swimming stops may be possible at points along the Ottawa River.

Accommodation Reservations:

Four nights of accommodation have been reserved in local hotels and motels. Singles are requested to share rooms where possible.

                  Pine Lodge provides rustic accommodation with only one double bed per room.

Riding Conditions:

Daily cycling distances will be between 70 and 80 kms over paved roads with low traffic volumes in most cases. Transfer of cyclist’s baggage will be provided between the various lodgings. Cyclists are requested to keep their baggage to a minimum and will be expected to share driving the rental van.

Participants will meet in Kanata at the starting point by 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 4th, and the tour will end at the same point in late afternoon of Saturday, July 8th. Riders are responsible for getting to and from the start/finish point although we will endeavour to assist visitors with transportation, as required.

Fee Includes:

The tour fee has options for couples and singles as follows: A. $282 double occupancy - couples only B. $325 double occupancy - singles sharing or couples sharing who find one double bed too confining and will include 2 rooms at Pine Lodge, each with a double bed. C. $470 single occupancy. The fee includes: 4 nights of accommodation in valley motels • Ride maps and cue sheets • Transport of baggage between motels • Any surplus over actual costs will be returned to participants

Fee Does Not Include:

• All meals with the exception of 1 breakfast • Bicycles or panniers are not provided • Transportation to and from the ride, although we will try to assist visitors with their needs. Itinerary:

July 4th - cycle from Kanata to Bristol, QC, with a potential swim stop at Norway Bay (56 kms + 318 m).

July 5th - from Bristol, cross the Ottawa River at Portage du Fort and travel west through Beachburg to Pembroke (70 kms + 355 m).

July 6th - a day loop ride from Pembroke around Allumette Island, QC. (74 kms +411m)

July 7th - cycle from Pembroke southeast to Renfrew (72 kms + 402m)

July 8th - from Renfrew, return to Kanata via Arnprior. (78 kms + 426m)

Registration and Participant Selection:

A $2.00 non-refundable registration fee is required at tour signup, which must be done online.

Participants will be selected within 72 hours, on the basis of registration time; secondly, on a priority for out of town visitors, and lastly on the availability of hotel rooms for the number of singles and doubles registering.

Registrants will be contacted by email regarding acceptance.  Full payment of the tour fee will be due upon notification of acceptance.
