Ride Description:

The H&S is rated as intermediate as the choice of rides is mixed. Rides will be offered in all directions from Peterborough: northward to the village of Lakefield and lakes, Chemong, Pigeon and Clear; eastward toward the town of Norwood; south to Rice Lake; and east to Bailieboro and Millbrook. The topography around Peterborough is generally rolling although the area is noted for its drumlins, an ice-age geological feature which should interest cyclists. There will be 5 days of rides from Peterborough including Friday, June 2nd, before our return to Ottawa. Each day there will be several ride options. In general, ride distances will range between 45 and 100 kms (your choice).

Your organizing committee of Nel Ahmed (petronellaa@primus.ca), Geoff Kennedy (gkennedy10@rogers.com, 613-232-6642), and Ed Weber (eweber@sympatico.ca, 613-829-1330) invites you to come and join the fun as we explore this region of Ontario.

Location: This year the Ottawa Group’s spring H&S is located in the Kawartha Lakes tourist region of Ontario. The Hub will be the small city of Peterborough (pop. 79,000). Peterborough is situated on the Otonabee River, part of the Trent-Severn Waterway system, and is the home of Trent University, the Canadian Canoe Museum and the highest canal lift locks in the world. Peterborough is gateway to the beautiful Kawartha Lakes cottage country.

Transportation:   Participants will be expected to provide their own transportation to Peterborough although we will endeavour to arrange car pooling for those travelling from Ottawa on the 28th, arriving mid afternoon. The distance from Ottawa is about 268 kms (3.25 hours by car). The nearest airport to Peterborough is Toronto (Pearson) which is 146 kms (1.5 hours by car).   Please let us know your travel plans and needs.
