COVID, COVID, COVID!
At the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020, the club developed 3 safety documents related to COVID 19:
- The CCCTS National COVID 19 Safety Plan,
- The CCCTS COVID 19 Outbreak Plan, and
- STAYING SAFE Guidelines
Since then, we have monitored the Public Health Orders issued by both BC and Ontario and amended our documents to align with provincial and federal regulations.
We began 2022 by reminding members that all participants in CCCTS activities must be fully vaccinated for COVID 19. We also recommended that members receive booster shots as they became available.
Our COVID safety documents continued to be amended throughout 2022 to reflect changing protocols regarding COVID. Minor updates included removing the restriction on the number of participants in club activities, both indoors and outdoors, and the changing of the mask wording from ‘required’ to ‘highly recommended’.
The most significant change to the COVID safety documents happened this October when we revised the Outbreak Action Plan. Up to this point we had stated that people testing positive during a tour or a Hub & Spoke were required to leave the activity. To align with the current provincial recommendations, we amended this statement to read
- All participants must bring a Covid 19 Antigen rapid test device kit and will use it to test themselves if they have any cold, flu-like or COVID symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache or shortness of breath.
- Anyone testing positive will be asked to self-isolate until they are feeling better and testing negative, at which time they may re-join group activities.
Lastly, in early November the BC provincial government removed the requirement for people testing positive for COVID 19 to isolate for any length of time. Ontario had already instigated this change. I would like to make note that our board has NOT removed that requirement for participants on tours and Hub and Spokes, deciding instead to maintain the current wording until at least the new year.
We will continue to closely monitor the COVID situation in the interests of keeping our members as safe and as protected as possible while still enjoying the many events our club offers.
